UK Holidays In Devon Cliffs Holiday Park

For the uninitiated, “holiday park” refers to a popular type of UK holiday destination. Typically, custom built mobile homes are permanently installed on the grounds, various amenities are offered (laundry and convenience stores at minimum), and they provide a comfortable base of operations from which you can explore the surrounding region. However, there are also parks whose description goes way beyond that basic model.

Devon Cliffs Holiday Park is one of 35 properties owned by Haven Holidays and it’s less a park than a village! There are small towns that don’t offer the facilities and activities you’ll find here, and so it’s the subject of today’s article.

Located in the Southern end of Devon County, in the Southwest corner of England, Devon Cliffs Holiday Park is perfectly situated as a jumping off point to visit the seaside holiday destinations of Exmouth, Paignton and Sidmouth on day-trips.

The whole family will enjoy the World Of Country Life attraction nearby; the Salcombe Regis donkey sanctuary, Seaton Tramway, Stuart Lines Cruises, Bicton Park and Creaby Adventure Park are also popular sites to visit. However, seeing any of those sites requires you to leave the park, and there’s so much to do in it that you may not want to go anywhere else. It’s almost certain your kids won’t!

For starters, let’s look at the accommodations. There are 6 levels of homes, or caravans (as they’re locally known), to choose from. They range from the basic ‘Standard’ to the luxurious ‘Platinum’ and ‘Prestige’ classes and will sleep up to 6 people. The family dogs are welcome in the ‘Standard’ and ‘Standard Plus’ units. They also offer several classes of Adapted homes, set up nicely for wheelchair access inside and out, with enough interior space to accommodate family and any required care-givers.

Once you’ve settled into your caravan, it’s time to explore the facilities. And there’s a lot to explore! Devon Cliffs Holiday Park is a family-focused establishment, and there is no shortage of activities for everyone to participate in. There are so many fun things for the kids to do here that we grown-ups will probably be envious. For the most part, activities are divided into 2 areas – SportsZone and SplashZone.

In the SportsZone, you’ll find a multi-sport court for basketball, tennis or volleyball, a climbing wall and Adventure Golf course. A laser tag facility is available, so are bicycle rentals. There are also several sports coaching programs to choose from, some for all ages and some for children only. All of us can pick up some tips on archery or fencing, while the kids and teens can perfect their football/soccer skills.

In the SplashZone, all ages can access both indoor and outdoor multi-level pool complexes with flumes and water slides, and swimming lessons for kids are available. For even more fun, for your kids, there are 4 ‘toys’ you can rent… for your kids. This is where the envy might set in! They can choose from the Aqua Glider (a cross between a jet ski and a bumper car), a pedal boat, a Water Walker (a floating plastic globe they get in and maneuver around the pool) or an Aqua Jet.

Remember the styrofoam surfboard thing you paddled around on as a kid? Well, think of the Aqua Jet as a motorized version, submersible and infinitely cooler. Too bad you won’t get to use it!

After all that playtime you’ll probably be hungry and thirsty, and there are a lot of choices here too. Some of their options are well known, like Burger King, Papa John’s pizza and – surprise! – a Starbucks. Yes, they’re here too. There’s also more traditional English fare, like a fish and chips shop. You’ll also find Strikes Sports Bar, Beachcomber Bar And Restaurant, a ‘buffet and grill’ and several cafes, one poolside. So you’re well covered for meals and libations.

If you’d rather prepare your own meals in your caravan’s kitchenette, you’ll find a well-stocked convenience store and bakery. There’s a candy store if your kids want a treat, and an off-license liquor store if you want one. There’s also a gift shop, laundry, ATM, payphones and a hire shop for your convenience. A ‘hire shop’ is a rental outlet, you can rent anything from a hairdryer to tennis equipment here if you chose to pack light.

For entertainment, their offerings are divided between Daytime, for the whole family, and Evening, which is mostly for us adults. Evening entertainment might include cabaret-style or comedy and musical variety shows, or circus-style acts. Daytime entertainment could include the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, the conservation-and-education focused Zoo Troop or Ned’s Party Dance Show. Some of these shows run all season (March to November) and some are available only on particular dates.

Most package deals at Devon Cliffs Holiday Park are for 3 nights, but depending on dates and availability you can probably book your visit to stay longer. Considering what they give you, their prices are very reasonable and specials are offered frequently via the Haven Holidays website.
